from my grandmother.
When I received it, it had at least ten coats of paint.
Since then, I have had it refinished.
It was used for holding brushes, ink and paper.
My mom gave it to me
when I graduated from high school.
The hand-forged hardware so beautiful.
And, how about those wooded square nails!
This box has been a treasure of mine for over fifty years!
If you are wondering why I did this post, you will know when

I love your post. I'm so glad you were inspired by my post. The chest of drawers is so lovely and so well made. And the calligraphy chest is beautiful! Both pieces are priceless, aren't they? I firmly believe it is the memories and story behind a piece that make it so precious.

Love the caligraphy chest - old furniture has so much soul!
Great post to celebrate the handiwork of craftspeople, the work they have put into making the best of the wood is beautiful.
Like your kitty avatar photo, cutie.
Beautiful pieces. You are very lucky to have them. I'm heading to Claudia's blog to see why you posted this (not that it wasn't interesting in its own right, because it was... I'm just curious...)
