Tutorial~Velveteen Scarf with Silk Trim

Ready for some fun?
These Velveteen scarves are so much fun to make and so easy. They add color and flavor to an otherwise boring outfit.
There are no rules. Yipee!
You decide the width and length of the scarf along with color of fabric and trim. Be brave! Be colorful!

Play around with your fabrics.

If you have a cat, you will have lots of help!
You will need.
Velveteen-at least 9 inches (1/4 yard)
Silk-scraps
Get you sewing kit and machine out. Here we go.
1. Length~whatever pleases you.
2. Decide the length of your trim.
3. Sew trim on each end of the velveteen.
4. Sew the scarf together lengthwise.
5. Turn inside out.
6. You now have a scarf in just a few minutes.
~There are lots of variations on the theme~
*Length of trim
*Gather trim or sew trim flat
*Hem edge of trim or use salvage edge
*Cut trim on the bias
*Use a different trim fabric for each end
*Leave trim open and only sew the edge of the velveteen together
*Use other soft fabrics instead of velveteen
*Vary the length and width of the scarf
MOST IMPORTANT HAVE FUN!
Use a stripped, plaid, print or plain trim fabric
Add an emblishment for a festive look.
Trim sewn straight to velveteen.
Gathered trim to velveteen.

So, now you know.

Enjoy...Hugs from Dogwood

Love this! Thanks so much for posting directions and embellishment ideas. I am going to dig through my fabric and see what I can unearth to make one, two, a dozen of these wonderful scarves.

p.s. I missed this when you first posted it because, as my blog says, I was MIA for a few days. So glad I scrolled down!
